General questions
Who is Sport Coach+ for?
Sport Coach+ is for sports coaches and trainers of coaches who work with – or plan to work with – young people aged 10-24 years in contexts of migration, including all genders, cultures, religions, and social backgrounds, and who have faced relocation and/or other forms of adversity. This includes refugee or internally displaced youth, as well as young people from host communities.
What will I find?
Two main types of resources comprise Sport Coach+:
- The Handbook contains information and insights on the benefits and potential harms of sport, and the impact of stress on young players facing displacement. It also provides practical guidance on how to implement safe and supportive sport.
- On the Resources page, you will find an open-access collection of materials intended for anyone working to promote safe and supportive sport environments. The page offers practical resources, including videos and other accessible content grounded in real-world practices.
How can I be a part of the initiative?
If you want to join the Sport Coach+ programme, do not hesitate to contact us. We are looking for people to help us expand the project.

What knowledge should I have before applying the Handbook?

For trainers
Who are the trainers?
The trainers have a solid understanding of the guidance document and experience in delivering training sessions. They are knowledgeable in both sport and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), ensuring that participants gain practical skills and insights. The trainers create a supportive learning environment, helping attendees apply these concepts in real-world situations.
What resources are available for training?
There are 3 main types of Training Resources:
- Facilitation manual for the One day SC+ training for sport coaches, including agenda, handouts, exercises and facilitation tips.
- The Train-the-Trainer provides a three-day training that aims to prepare the trainer for being able to develop and implement locally contextualised, active and experiential trainings suitable for sport coaches. Available upon request.
