The Handbook
The Sport Coach+ Handbook contains information on the benefits and potential harms of sport, and the impact of stress on young players. It also provides practical guidance on how to implement safe and supportive sport. The Handbook is a helpful resource for coaches to come back to as they implement Sport Coach+.
Background needed
Ideally, coaches using this guidance are:
- Competent to deliver sport and structured physical activity and provide positive mentorship with young people.
- Aware of child safeguarding and safe sport.
- Familiar with human rights , rights of the child , gender, disability, inclusion, medical first aid, youth development, and community engagement
- Able to continue to develop their safe and supportive sport skills on an ongoing basis.
An evidence-based set of resources
Sport Coach+ draws upon evidence and best practices from the worlds of coaching, sport for development, safeguarding, child protection, mental health and psychosocial support.
It recognises the importance of bringing together the various people who form the community and social ecology of the lives of young people affected by displacement.
Each of these important people – coaches, friends and teammates, teachers, families, mental health and social service professionals, community members and leaders – holds a corner of the safety net that ensures no young person is left behind.
